Quant brainteasers
Quant Interview Brainteasers
The puzzle round that sits inside interviews across the industry, not any one firm's test. 36 items across probability, reasoning and mathematics, every one generated fresh: the counts, the deck, the constraint set and the target change on each attempt, so the answer has to be worked rather than recalled.
Format
- 3 sections · 36 items · about 90 minutes
- No negative marking - answer everything.
- No going back. Answer or skip, and the next item loads.
- Every sitting is generated fresh - a retake is a new paper.
Sections
- Probability - 14 items, 35 minutes, no negative marking. 14 items in 35 minutes. Linearity of expectation, Bayes, hypergeometric draws, gambler's ruin, coupon collector, optional stopping, waiting times.
- Reasoning - 10 items, 30 minutes, no negative marking. 10 items in 30 minutes. Knights and knaves, hat deductions, weighings, constraint grids, parity and pigeonhole arguments, two-player games.
- Math - 12 items, 25 minutes, no negative marking. 12 items in 25 minutes. Painted cubes, digit counting, trailing zeros, clock hands, lattice paths, tilings, modular arithmetic, geometric probability.
No firm runs this as an online assessment. The firms hiring for this role screen by interview instead, so this sitting models the work rather than anyone's test. Outcry is not affiliated with any firm and every question is generated by Outcry.
